The Borough of Nazareth (and yes, it is named after it's Biblical namesake ) was founded in 1740 by Moravian immigrants from Germany and sits above hills that contain the richest veins of limestone in the U.S. Much of the farmland surrounding Nazareth is being converted into close sitting lots of suburban housing, for its current city population of 6,000.
The Nazareth Historic District incorporates a whopping 503 buildings and 1 contributing site (Moravian Congregational Cemetery) in a mostly residential area of Nazareth and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
Nazareth was home to the Nazareth Speedway, of Indy and USAC racing fame and also to racing champions Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti and third-generation driver Marco Andretti. The Speedway was closed in 2004.
Nazareth is also the global headquarters for the highly renowned guitar makers C.F Martin & Company.
The Borough of Tatamy is home to about 1000 people and takes its name from Moses Tunda Tatamy, a noted Lenni Lenape Native American who owned 315 acres of land northeast of Tatamy in the early 1700's. In 1771 Michael Messinger Sr. Bought 500 acres of land that includes present day Tatamy. In spring of 1893, having become a fair-sized village, citizens of the town met to discuss separation from Palmer Township & incorporate into an independent borough. It was incorporated in 1893 and to this day Tatamy remains a small community that values the areas background & history that is interwoven with generations of the Messinger family that owned, occupied, & helped it develop into a community.
